Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) is a 4-year, semester-based program offered by Tribhuvan University(TU) under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FoHSS). It is one of Nepal’s most popular IT undergraduate degrees, blending computer applications with mathematics, management, and communication skills to prepare graduates for the software and IT services industry.

Exam Pattern & Marks Distribution

The BCA entrance exam has three sections.
The test has three primary areas : English Grammar, Mathematics, and General Knowledge with Grammar carrying 40% of the marks, Mathematics 50%, and General Knowledge 10% of the total marks.

Since there is no negative marking, you should attempt every question.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to sit for the TU BCA entrance exam, candidates must meet the following:

  • Minimum D grade in each subject of grade 11 and 12 with CGPA 1.8 or more.
    or
  • Minimum score of second division marks in 10+2, PCL or equivalent in any discipline.
    or
  • Students who have passed grade 11 and are waiting for the result of grade 12 can also apply. However, they have to submit the certificates of grades 11 & 12 and all the required documents at the time of admission.

Complete BCA Entrance Syllabus

The syllabus is based on the Grade 11 and 12 curriculum or equivalent. Below is the section-wise breakdown.

1. Mathematics (50 Marks)

  • Arithmetic: Percentage, Integers / HCF & LCM, Time and Work, Ratio and Proportion, Simple Interest, Profit and Loss, Averages, Area and Volume
  • Calculus: Limits, Derivatives, Basic Integration
  • Coordinate Geometry: Straight lines and basic coordinate concepts
  • Trigonometry: Identities and basic trigonometric functions
  • Statistics & Probability: Mean, median, mode; basic probability
  • Reasoning: Coding and Decoding, Letter and Symbol Series, Number Series, Clock Problems, Ranking Test, Missing Number, Analogies

2. English / Grammar (40 Marks)

  • Prime Ministers of Nepal; capital cities

  • Major scientific inventions and discoveries

General IT topics:

  • Hardware and Software basics
  • Input and Output devices
  • Internet and Email
  • HTML fundamentals
  • Programming concepts
  • Common full forms and IT inventions
