Here’s a clear walkthrough of the admission process for both programs under the Institute of Science and Technology (IoST), Tribhuvan University — based on IoST’s own official FAQ.

First things first: are you eligible?

Before anything else, check whether your +2 subject combination qualifies you.

For B.Sc.CSIT, you need to have completed 10+2 in Science, or hold a Diploma in Computer, with Physics and Mathematics each carrying 100 full marks. Note the emphasis on full marks. A 50-mark Mathematics paper will not count.

For BIT, the requirement is English plus either Mathematics or Computer Science, again with 100 full marks each.
This makes BIT accessible to a slightly wider pool of students, including students from management backgrounds who took Computer Science.

What about grades?

For B.Sc.CSIT, you need at least a C grade (or second division, under the older marking system) in Physics and Mathematics, along with an overall CGPA of 1.8.

For BIT, you need at least a C grade (1.6) in Mathematics, English and your Mathematics/Computer Science subject, plus the same overall CGPA of 1.8.

If you’re below these thresholds, you cannot give the entrance exam.

The entrance application is online

IoST has moved the entrance application entirely online

Head to iost.tu.edu.np, navigate to the Entrance Cell, select your program, and fill out the form.
Payment is handled online too, so there’s no need to visit an office or a bank counter to complete your application.

Documents to have ready

Scan these before you sit down to fill the form — it’ll save you a lot of frustration:

• Citizenship certificate (a copy)
• Grade 11 and 12 marksheet or transcript
• Character certificate
• Migration certificate
• SEE/SLC marksheet and character certificate
• Passport-size photo

The three questions everyone asks about documents

Three common questions, answered:

1. Question: “I don’t have a citizenship certificate yet.”
   Answer: No problem. A birth registration certificate is accepted in its place.
2. Question:”My transcript hasn’t been issued.”
   Answer:Also fine. Your marksheet or grade sheet is enough to submit the online form.
3. Question:”Can I upload a screenshot of my Grade 12 marksheet?”
   Answer: Yes — for the online application. But be aware: the original document is required when you actually enroll at your campus.

When does your admit card come?

The admit card is released only 2–3 days before the entrance exam, downloadable from the same portal you applied through.

Plan your travel and exam-day logistics with that timeline in mind, especially if you’re coming in from outside the valley and taking the exam in the valley.

After the results: the priority list. How many college can you apply?

This is the step students most often mishandle.

Once entrance results are published, you return to the portal and list up to 10 campuses or colleges in order of preference.
Put your top choice first. IoST then publishes an allocation list based on your entrance rank and your stated priorities, and you go to the assigned campus to complete your admission.

1. Confirm your +2 subjects meet the 100-full-marks requirement.
2. Confirm your grades clear the C / 1.6 and CGPA 1.8 thresholds.
3. Scan all documents; use marksheets if transcripts are delayed.
4. Apply and pay at iost.tu.edu.np via the Entrance Cell.
5. Download the admit card 2–3 days before the exam.
6. After results, list your 10 colleges honestly, best choice first.
